Huefo is a tangible multi-user control interface for the Philips hue lighting system with a unique approach to lighting interaction. Moving the lighting pins across surface changes the lighting settings. The top surface has two dimensions: one gradient for colour temperature and one gradient for the amount of saturation.
The pins visualize the lighting needs in a fun, engaging way: if all pins are placed together in a close proximity, the Huefo will gently tilt to that side to emphasise this user need.
My contribution to this project was ideation, concept development, research, hardware design and documenting the progress made in a written report.
DynaDash is a future car dashboard concept that explores the possibilities of autonomous driving. If no user input is needed, the steering wheel can be minimized with a simple gesture. This creates space for features that facilitate both recreational and professional activities on-the-go.
The final product of this project was an electrically powered prototype that was able to simulate a transition from a driving environment to a mobile office environment by retracting the steering wheel and relocating the screen to above the dashboard. My contributions were concept development, photography, product design, UI Design and user-testing.
Huenite is a tool specifically designed to study people's behaviour in multi-user lighting situations. This device enables people to control the various aspects of the Philips hue lighting system (hue, saturation, brightness, lamp selector) with a tangible device. This allowed us to provide situational awareness about the lighting needs to the users, moreso than when the traditional mobile application was used.
In this research project, the phenomenon known as 'Social Translucence' was investigated by conducting multiple user tests over the span of multiple weeks. The participants were asked to control the lighting in their shared room with our 'Huenite', which logged every interaction. The data logs were analyzed, and participants were invited for semi-structured interviews. The final result is a SIGCHI-standard research paper that shares the findings of this project.
De Italianen are a group of Dutch theatre students that excel in providing entertainment in the form of live music and acting. They asked for a modern, responsive website that has been optimized for computers and mobile phones.
I redesigned their website to present its information in a clean and structured way, with an overall elegant ambience that is reminiscent of Italy. I also helped them optimize their SEO to boost their online presence.
I designed a motion graphics video for Utrecht-based Graphic Design firm Initium Design. In this video I explained a concept of theirs, MobiCard. This is a digital business card for big enterprises that does not only help preserve the environment by eliminating excessive paper prints, it allows instant customization and sharing of business cards.
My contribution for this project was to create an animation that explained the general concept and the process of editing the cards for the stakeholders. I created this video in Adobe After Effects using assets supplied by Initium, and created my own assets using Adobe Illustrator.
