Hi, my name is Arthur. I am driven to create digital tools and systems to bridge the gap between people and technology.

Multidisciplinary UX Designer

I am a UX Designer based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I hold a MSc degree in Industrial Design from the Eindhoven University of Technology. My academic background in both Design and Computer Science enables me to analyse problems from a broader perspective, and help guide me in designing and developing fitting solutions.

I have a self-directed attitude and employ an iterative and user-centred approach in my work. For me, good design equals transparency, respectfulness and a holistic attention to detail, which can only result from a reflective and collaborative approach.

My Skills and Tools

I approach projects with skills in UX Design/Research such as design ethnography, semi-structured interviews, journey mapping, wireframing, WCAG 2.1 and usability evaluation.

I refine these with skills in Visual Design using the principles of colour theory, contrast, typography, animation, illustration, proportion and balance.

Afterwards I'm able to realize concepts using my skills in Development, spanning from the Front-End (HTML, Responsive CSS, JS) to the Back-End (PHP, MySQL, Java, Python). Additionally, these are facilitated by my skills with Git and CLIs.

Finally, I have a broad range of digital tools I use, with my favourites being Figma, Adobe Photoshop/Indesign/Illustrator/AE/XD, Atom, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides.

Beyond My Work

In my free time I like to learn new things. For example, since 2017 I have been brewing ciders and beers under the name of Brouwerij Geel. In similar vein, I recently have picked up baking bread. Perhaps there will be a Bakkerij Geel in the future too.

I enjoy reading books on design, psychology and science-fiction: I challenge myself to read a book a month. Currently I'm reading 'De Judovader', a book about one of the most prominent behind-the-scenes persons in the sport that played an important role in my childhood. One day I will resume my quest to obtain the 1st Dan (black belt).

I love listening to music, with my favourite genres being Drum & Bass and Classic Rock. As the proud owner of a heirloom Lenco 600 I also like to collect records. My latest addition is 'Ex Machina', Metrik's most recent album in which his sound was inspired by elements of futurism and space.
